Just a quick note to share a verse from my reading in Luke 5 today.
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
I am challenging myself today to search for those places in earnest…places where real people with real problems dwell. I don’t know if this is exactly what the intent of the passage was, but I think this is a challenge to be real. For example, it was the Pharisees that Jesus was speaking to. From what I understand of the relationship between them and Jesus, I am assuming that Jesus felt they had some pretty big hangups as a group and yet he speaks as though he isn’t around people like them because they don’t need it. To me, it just feels like he’s really saying, if you’re determined to scrub the outside and not let me inside then there’s really nothing I can do for you. In spite of the fact that everyone needs Jesus, he spent time with people of less social appeal and it seems to me that these people were more open about their problems so Jesus could more easily get to the root issues. I hope He finds me that open today.
